Cairns Accommodation
It began as a rough and tumble mining port and has grown into the tourist capital of Tropical Queensland. Cairns has a plethora of international standard hotels and the surrounding beaches are home to some of the best boutique resorts on the country. Backpackers are well catered for, perhaps better than anywhere else in the world, with cheap rates, warm weather and access to the Great Barrier Reef, Outback Queensland and tropical rainforests.
If five start hotels and backpacker hostels aren't your style there are plenty of apartments in and around Cairns and Port Douglas. Most of them are self-catering (meaning you get your own kitchen), and prices vary from less than $100 a night up to whatever you want to pay (you can even rent your own island for a million dollars a week).
