The major centre of Gladstone and surrounding coastal towns of Tannum sands, Turkey Beach, Town of 1770 and Agnes Water are gateways to islands in the Great Barrier Reef including Heron Island, Lady Musgrave Island and Lady Elliot Island.
Other inland locations include Calliope, Benaraby, Bororen, Miriam Vale and Many Peaks. National Parks in the region include Kroombit Tops National Park, Mount Castle Tower National Park and Deepwater National Park.
