Winton Dingo Fence
Just outside of Winton you’ll find the Dingo Fence, built in the 1880s and still one of the longest structures in the world. Starting at Jimbour on the Darling Downs, it stretches a whopping 5,614km all the way down to the cliffs of the Nullarbor Plain, just above the Great Australian Bite. The fence was made to keep Dingos out of south east Australia and particularly to protect the sheep of southern Queensland. While it has worked to keep dingos out of south east Australia, it has led to an abundance of kangaroos in the south that can easily jump the fence.
