Maheno Wreck
The most popular of Fraser Island’s shipwrecks, the Maheno was one of the first turbine driven steamers when it was made in 1905. In 1935 the ship was decommissioned and sold to Japan for scrap but was hit with a tropical storm while being towed through Queensland waters. The Maheno washed up on the shores of Fraser Island and has been a tourist attraction ever since.
